Hello, I’m a UKCP registered psychotherapist and counsellor based in Forest Row, East Sussex. I work face-to-face and on Zoom.

My working life as a nurse and my experiences with terminally ill patients informed my decision to retrain in psychotherapy; I observed how early life events seemed to shape how my patients responded to illness and life changing events and how, in the words of John O’Donahue “Each of us carries a unique world within our hearts.”

I believe that good therapy is founded on the relationship we form between us, and on finding a therapist who is curious about and accepting of your unique world.

Within the relationship we form together I will work with you to discover the patterns you may have developed as a way to cope and make sense of your childhood relationships, patterns that, as an adult, may no longer be serving you well. Recognising an old pattern can be a powerful moment and can make way for new personal growth and new choices.

The process of reflection in therapy can support you in making meaning of your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. Therapy is a quiet and safe space to work through things, it is a time for you.

Some of the feedback clients have given in private practice and in my NHS volunteer role:

I can’t thank her enough for all her time and support. These sessions have been really beneficial for me and helped me to come to terms with my grief and also understand my anxieties and how to help myself.”

I feel very fortunate to have been offered counselling with Susanne. She was kind, compassionate, and obviously very knowledgeable. I felt held and supported throughout our sessions, and am very grateful for the insights and changes she helped me come to. Thank you so much.”

“Each of us carries a unique world within our hearts.”

John O’Donohue

Who I Work With

I work with individuals over 18 years old and with couples and groups. The work can be short-term: 6 – 20 weeks or open-ended.

My areas of speciality:
In my work as a psychotherapist I see clients with many different issues, see below; I have particular experience working with clients in the perinatal period – parents who are struggling with issues around fertility, pregnancy, stillbirth, postnatal depression, birth and new parenthood.

I also have experience working with bereaved clients, those with life-limiting diagnoses and with their families.

Couples:
In working with couples I use a short-term method of up to eight 1.5 hour sessions; The couple may be romantic partners or they may be father-son/mother-daughter/business partners or any other combination of two individuals who wish to work on their relationship.

Groups:
I facilitate bereavement groups from time to time, please enquire if you are interested in group work.

How I Work

Following your initial contact I will arrange for a short phone or Zoom conversation with you to discuss what you are looking for and if I am able to help and for you to ask me the questions that are important to you; this initial meeting will allow us both to sense if we can work together and come to an agreement on time/place and cost. All being well we would then find a mutually suitable time to meet, on a weekly basis, either on Zoom or face to face.

Some of the issues I work with:
All aspects of perinatal mental health in both mothers and fathers, bereavement and loss, childhood-adult trauma, transgenerational trauma, anxiety and depression, stress, relationship difficulties, and low self-esteem.

My qualifications

I am a registered nurse and, as a second profession, studied at Metanoia, a well-established and reputable training institute for psychotherapy in London, gaining an MSc and CTA (Certified Transactional Analyst) qualification.

During my training, I gained experience with the following services: Cruse Bereavement Care, St. Catherine’s Hospice, West Kent Mind and East Sussex NHS Perinatal Service.
